  • Eldritch Horror
    Starts: 6:00 pm
    Ends: August 6, 2015 - 9:30 pm
    Description: Update

Last session, two parties of intrepid investigators set out to battle the Ancient Ones. Neither succeeded. Brad managed to kill off every fighting specialist in battling Ithaqua, the Wind Walker. Bob lead a party against Yog Sothoth. They fought bravely, but could not defeat the ancient one.

Enough is enough. This week we shall put an end to the dreaded wind walker. Dress warmly -- it may be unseasonable warm outside, but inside there is a deadly chill.

    What is this meetup?

Every other Thursday, we meet to play Eldritch Horror, with the goal of playing against, and defeating, all of the ancient ones. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned investigator, join us for the struggle.

If you've never played and want to learn more about the game, Fantasy Flight has a great tutorial on their website: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/products/eldritch-horror/

If you are planning to come, please RSVP so that we know whether to set up one or two games.

    What is Eldritch Horror?

An ancient evil is stirring. You are part of a team of unlikely heroes engaged in an international struggle to stop the gathering darkness. To do so, you’ll have to defeat foul monsters, travel to Other Worlds, and solve obscure mysteries surrounding this unspeakable horror. The effort may drain your sanity and cripple your body, but if you fail, the Ancient One will awaken and rain doom upon the known world.

Eldritch Horror is a cooperative game for one to eight players, based on the fiction of H.P. Lovecraft and inspired by the classic board game Arkham Horror. In Eldritch Horror, investigators travel the globe in an urgent quest to save the world from a diabolical, omnipotent Ancient One. With four different Ancient Ones, twelve investigators, numerous monsters, and hundreds of possible encounters, every game provides an unique and epic adventure.

Tessa Marsh: Retired (?!) cat burglar and creature of the night has discovered that the person who killed Karl is coming after her next.

Kato Lee: Karl’s Driver, Manservant, and student in the field of Martial Arts must have revenge. His master’s killer will not escape justice.

Diana “Artie” Luna: The local Librarian has her share of secrets. As a skilled Wizard and Warden of the White Council she must protect the mundane from any and all mystic threats and such threats abound in Arkham. Karl was killed by demon magic and that violates several of the Laws of Magic. That practitioner is going to face Council Justice if she has anything to say about it.

Amelia Green: Rescued by the Sidhe as a child she has returned to the world of mortals. As a Torch Singer at the Speak Easy “Underhill” she caught the eye of Karl Luft. Now that she has inherited his estate she plans to fund a proper investigation for the killer no matter the cost.

Tom Tuttle: In his guise as Centurion he is a major player in law enforcement in Arkham. One of his information sources was Karl Luft. He has vowed to bring his scientific skills to bear to find his friend’s killer.

Jean Paul: A stage magician who has real mystic skills, he learned that Karl held the key to advancing those skills. He is investigating the murder in the hope that it will lead him to the knowledge that Karl had.

Vladimir Dimitri Ursavich: This exiled Russian Noble (and were bear) plans to use his Ursine abilities to locate and punish Karl’s Killer.

The game meets on alternate Sundays from 13:00 to 17:00. It is a relaxed group looking to solve a few mysteries and have some fun.

Look forward to a wild and woolly adventure where outsmarting your opponents is more important than skills or stats.

Beth has been playing D&D for a long time and will be introducing players to a long-running campaign world. New, or First to third-level characters are required, but these are quick and easy to roll up and the Dungeon Master encourages everyone to choose any class they qualify for. Campaigns will be totally self standing and there is no week to week carryover. All campaigns are all part of a long-running world that connects them all. We are using first edition rules so bring your imagination, DM can supply dice, character sheets and anything else you need.

This will be an ongoing campaign, running every Monday night.

Around the Table

Around the Table is being built from the ground up as a hub for the neighborhood and boardgamers alike. As a gaming establishment, we aim to feature a large selection of boardgames for sale both popular and niche, new and used, and with a back room for quiet gaming, while also hosting obvious events like Magic drafts as well as more obscure ones like pizza-and-beer Game Nights. As a neighborhood establishment, we aim to provide parents a space to unwind, with an open front cafe/retail space to play boardgames while knocking back an IPA. We also want to satisfy children with a large selection of locally crafted ice-cream by the scoop. Events we host range from private birthday parties and charity beer tastings, to book club gatherings. More than anything, we aim to create a place that isn't just beer and isn't just geek. Everyone has something to bring to the table, whether it's a game or simply the whole family. We hope to see you soon--Around the Table

Friday Night, Pathfinder Night, Amirite?

Today: Friday Night Magic [Origins Draft - $15] @ 7pm.

Saturday: 5th Edition D&D with Danny @ 1pm; Intro to DragonQuest RPG with Greg @ 1pm; Pathfinder Society @ 6pm; Magic the Gathering Tournament [Standard - $5] @ 6:30pm.

Paizo has just dumped a load of wonderful new toys on our doorstep!

First up is the new hardbound Pathfinder: Occult Adventures, which brings Pathfinder into the realm of the spiritual. It brings with it a myriad of new classes, new archetypes for existing ones, tons of new creatures, new mechanics that flesh out the whole new Psychic Magic system and allow for mental duels, rituals and all sorts of tomfoolery. It also includes enough world-building info to base entire campaigns on! If you need some more ideas though, the Heck Unleashed Campaign Setting book is at the ready.

For those already slugging it out in the Giant Slayer Adventure Path, the wait is over! Book 5 and 6 are finally here alongside a Poster Map Folio. And more battle mats have arrived if you happen to be fighting a battle in, say, a Village Square, Camp, Shelter or Museum.

Good luck!

Wednesday is for New Releases! So many ...

Today's Events: Riichi Mahjong @ 2pm; Dungeons & Dragons: Encounters @ 6pm; VS. Card Game w/Cid @ 6:30pm; War Game Wednesday @ 7pm.

Thursday's Events: Co-operative Game Night @ 6pm.; X-Wing & Armada @ 6:30pm.

So much has come in over the last few days, I don't know where to begin.

I got to play La Granja on Monday night and really loved it! It's a deep, worker-placement game that was really compelling. Kind of fiddly, but not too bad. I'm dying to play it again! (That's a pic of our Monday night game).

Firefly: Tall card is a fun-looking poker-like game modelling on the on that they play on the show.

Arctic Scavengers! Shut Up and Sit Down's favorite deck-builder is now back in print, with all the expansions all the time!

For all of you Talisman fans, there's a new expansion: The Harbinger! 3 new characters, 100+ cards and the Harbinger, a mysterious figure warning of the apocalypse to come.

Flip City is a great new deck-builder with a Sim City theme. Not only can you buy cards to go into your deck, each card is double-sided so you can pay to flip them. A really great, fun game with an affordable $19.99 price tag.

Lanterns is a tile-laying game in the same vein as Carcassonne, but with a long-term strategy and quick game play. Played tiles give you and the other players cards, which you form sets with and cash them in for victory. A great starter game!
